George and Mary Ann Parkin, nee Finbow, lived at 11 Watson Road, Worksop, where they had their two children, Sidney in 1893 and Fred in 1895 both born in Worksop. When of working age, Fred started as a printers clerk and Sidney as a law clerk whilst their father, George was employed as a stationary engine driver.
Pte Sydney Parkin Worksop Guardian 20 June 1919 The sympathy of many friends will be expressed to Mr and Mrs Parkin of 11 Watson Road, Worksop, who have just received official information that their son, 28175 Pte Sydney Parkin, 1st Battalion, Kings Own Royal Lancashire Regiment, is presumed dead and expressing the condolence of their Majesties, the King and Queen, in the great loss which has befallen them. Pte Parkin has been missing since April 1st 1918. He enlisted in 1915 in the Notts and Derbys and was for some time engaged in clerical work at headquarters. He was subsequently drafted, and transferred shortly before he was reported missing, to the Kings Own Royal Lancs. Before enlisting he was on the clerical staff of Messrs Hodding and Co. and was a smart, well conducted lad, who enjoyed much popularity.
