Family History

Thomas Herbert Lenton was born in 1873 at Wisbech, Cambridgshire and was the son of the late Joseph and the late Hannah Lenton néé Harpley, of Cambridgeshire. Thomas Herbert married his wife Mary Anne Parker (born 18th May 1870) in 1891 at Nottingham, they lived at 82, Loscoe Rd, Carrington, Nottingham, they had the following children, Albert b1892, Hilda b1896, Herbert b1899, Emma born 28th July 1903, Ruth born 21st February 1905, Harold born 19th November 1906, Doris b1907 and Kathleen born 8th July 1913.In the 1911 census the family are living at 14 Jenner Street, Carrington and are shown as Thomas 38 yrs a porter, he is living with his wife, Mary 39 and their children; Albert 19 yrs a frame work knitter , Hilda 15 yrs a lace hand Herbert 12 yrs Emma 8 yrs, Ruth 6 yrs and Harold 4 yrs of age. Following his death his widow Mary Anne was awarded a pension of 32 shillings and six pence a week which commenced on 13th August 1917.

Military History

Private Thomas Herbert Lenton, enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Carrington, he initially served with the service number 28652 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment later transferring to the 1st (garrison battalion ) Lincolnshire Regiment . He died on 11th January 1917 of Brights disease (Kidney disease ) and is buried at Calcutta (Bhowanipore) Cemetery (grave ref H.309)
