Family History

Ernest was born in 1890 at Cinderhill and was the son of George a publican and Eliza Bramley née Priest of 46 Oldknow Street Hyson Green Nottingham. His father George was born in 1856 at Basford and his mother Eliza Priest was born in Bedworth, Warwickshire in 1854, they were married in 1880, their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District, they had 3 sons , George b1882, Robert b1885 and Ernest 1890, all the children were born in Cinderhill. His father George was a publican of the Park Tavern on Nuthall Road, he died at the age of 35 yrs, his death is recorded in the Basford Registration District, following his death his wife Eliza was licensee of the Park Tavern. In the 1911 census , the family are shown living at 2 St Nicholas Street, Nottingham, and are shown as Eliza 57 yrs a widow and publican , head of the family living with her is her sister Rose Marriott a publicans wife and her two sons Robert 26 yrs and Ernest 21 yrs both give their occupation as assisting their mother in her business. His probate was proven in Nottingham on 13th February 19017, he is shown as Ernest Bramley , 46 Oldknow Street, Nottingham, Private in H M Army , died 26th November 1916 in France, his effects of £103 15 shillings and 4 pence were left to Eliza Bramley, widow (his mother)

Military History

Rifleman Ernest Bramley enlisted at Nottingham on 9th September 1914, he gave his age as 24 years 275 days, his place of birth as Cinderhill, his occupation as that of stone mason, and his religion as Church of England. His next of kin was his mother Eliza of 46 Oldknow Street, Hyson Green. He was posted to the 13th battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps. He landed in France joining the British Expeditionary Force on 30th July 1915. He was wounded in action on 14th November 1916, having received multiple gun shot wounds and was taken to no 3 Casualty Clearing Station, he was removed the same day to No 3 Canadian General Hospital , he died form his wounds on 26th November 1916 at the hospital. He is buried at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery - grave ref 8 D 187
