He was the only son of the late Reverend Lawrence Wilkins (late vicar of St James Church Nottingham) and of Mrs E Jessie Wilkins of 4 Clare Valley The Park Nottingham (CWGC).
Joined 10 December 1914 as 2nd Lieut 2/4th Bn York and Lancaster Regiment (T), promoted Lieutenant June 1917 and Captain July 1918. Served in Flanders and France from September 1915 to August 1918. Killed in action at Ervillers, north-west of Bapaume, 25 August 1918. Buried Mory Abbey Military Cemetery, Mory (grave ref IV.E.6).
Nottingham Post notice (abridged) 2 September 1918: 'Wilkins. Killed in action in France August 25th, Captain Lawrence Arnold Wilkins, York and Lancaster Regiment, age 24, only son of the late Rev. Lawrence Wilkins and Mrs Wilkins, Clare Valley, The Park, Nottingham.'Nottinghamshire Law Society ROH: 'LA Wilkins: Son of the Revd. Lawrence Watkins, late Vicar of St James Church, Nottingham, born on the 17th day of August 1894, educated at Oundle School, Northampton, articled to Robert Barber, Solicitor, Nottingham, on the 28th day of October 1913. He obtained a commission in the York and Lancaster Regiment on the 10th December 1914, and was promoted lieutenant in June 1917 and captain in 1918. He served in France from September 1915 to the 23rd August 1918 when he was killed in action at ervillers near Bapaume.'
