He was the son of Charles and Emma Chapple and the brother of Francis John, Florence, Ethel, Charlotte and Minnie Chapple. In 1901 they were living at Newstead Priory Nottinghamshire. In 1911 Charles Chapple was the Station Master at Hucknall Torkard and most of the family lived at the Station House. In 1911 George was lodging at Lowdham Nottinghamshire. Charles and Emmas later lived at 'The Bungalow' Wood Lane Hucknall Torkard Nottinghamshire.
Corporal George Henry Chapple, 2/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment (Robin Hood Rifles), was reported missing on 21st March 1918. His death was confirmed by a family notice published on 11th April 1919. His body was never identified and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
Obituary published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 11th April 1919 : - “CHAPPLE. – Corpl. George H. Chapple, signaller, 7th Sherwood Foresters (Robin Hoods), youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Chapple, Midland Station House, Hucknall, reported missing March 21st, 1918, now officially reported killed on that date.” Above obituary courtesy of Jim Grundy and his facebook pages Small Town Great War Hucknall 1914-1918.
