Thomas Arthur Cox was born in 1883 a Nottingham, he was the son of Thomas Stretton a lace maker and Emma Cox née Lambert of Camelot Street, Ruddington. Thomas Stretton was born in 1854 at Lenton, Emma Lambert was born in 1856 at Nottingham, they were married on 28th May 1882 at Holy Trinity Church, Nottingham they had 4 children sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood, his surviving siblings were William Bertie born 1886 and Harry born 1890, In the 1911 census the family are living at Casthorpe Cottages Ruddington, Thomas Stretton 57 yrs is a lace maker, he is living with his wife Emma 55 yrs and their son Harry 21 yrs a mechanic.

Military History

Private Thomas Arthur Cox enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Ruddington, he served with 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he landed in France on 8th September 1914, he was killed in action on 7th December 1914 by a German sniper, whilst serving in the trenches at Rue-De-Bois, France, He is buried at Desplanque Farm Cemetery, La Chapelle-D’Armentieres, France.
