Family History

William Henry Hinch Freestone was born in 1883 at Great Eastone and was the son of the late Josiah a farm labourer and Rosina Freestone née Hinch, of Oxton, Southwell. His father Josiah was born in 1845 at Drayton, Leicestershire, he died in 1918 he was 74 yrs of age. His mother Rosina Hinch was born in 1852 at Lyddington, Leicestershire, they were married in 1872 their marriage was recorded in the Uppingham registration district, they went on to have 8 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were, Kate b1873, Emma b1874, Minnie b1879, William Henry Hinch b1883, Arthur b1885 and Charles Leonard b1888 all were born in the Uppingham/Leicestershire areas. In the 1911 census the family are living at Great Eastone, Uppingham and are shown as Josiah 66 yrs a farm labourer, he is living with his wife Rosina 59 yrs and their daughter Olive 17 yrs a general domestic servant.

Military History

Private William Henry Hinch Freestone enlisted at Leicester, he served with the 6th battalion Leicestershire Regiment. He was killed in action on 21st April 1918, he is buried in The Huts Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
