Richard Bate

Richard Bate was born in 1878 at Brant Broughton and was the son of Robert Bate, a farm labourer and Mary Bate of Brant Broughton, Newark, Notts. Richard lived at 10 Burns Street, Nottingham His father Robert Bate was born in 1840 at Folkingham, Lincolnshire, and his mother Mary Smalley was born in 1842 at Brant Broughton, they were married n 1868 at Brant Broughton and went on to have 10 children. His mother Mary died in 1897 at 55 yrs of age, In the 1911 census his father Robert is shown as a farm labourer 71 yrs of age and a widow , he is living on his own in the village of Brant Broughton. In the 1911 census Richard , 32 yrs single and a brick maker is living with his elder marred brother Tom 40 yrs a colliery labourer above ground and his wife Alice 37 yrs and their 6 children and also his elder brother William 35 yrs also a brick maker, they are residing at Hepthorne Lane, North Wingfield near Chesterfield.
