John Lloyd Langham was the son of Edwin Langham and Ellenor/Ellen/Eleanor Marian Kirk who married at Nottingham in 1888. They had three sons: Edwin (b.1890), John Lloyd (b.1892) and Harry (b.1899). All three were born in Radford. Edwin appears to have had a child, Grace Fanny Langham (b.1882), outside of marriage and Grace was living with the Langhams in 1891. The Langhams lived at: 8 Stilton Terrace, Norton Street, Radford [C.1891]; 5 Alice Terrace, Dorking Road, Radford [C.1901]; 74 Wordsworth Road, Radford [C.1911]. Edwin Langham, a lace maker, died at Nottingham, aged 78, in 1937. His wife predeceased him, dying at Nottingham in 1929, aged 65. In 1915 John Lloyd Langham married Rosamond Maria Clifford at Nottingham. His widow lived at 81 Ilkeston Road, Radford. She didn’t remarry and died in the Ilkeston registration district in 1965,aged 78.
Lance Corporal John Lloyd Langham, enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 3rd Battalion Grenaider Guards, he died of wounds on 28th November 1917. He is buried in Rocquigny-Equancourt Road British Cemetery, Manancourt.
Nottingham Evening Post obituary (abridged) 4 December 1917: LANGHAM died of wounds, Lloyd Jack Langham, wife Rose, mother, father, family. In memoriam published 28th November 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “LANGHAM. - In loving memory of my dear husband, J. L. Langham (Jack), late Grenadier Guards, died November 28th, 1917, buried at Rocquing, France. His loving wife. “LANGHAM. - In loving memory of our dear son and brother, Cpl. John Lloyd (Jack) Langham, 3rd Grenadier Guards, who died of wounds in France November 28th, 1917. Only those who have lost can understand.
