George Mason was born in 1895 the son of William a lace maker and Mary Ann Mason. His father was born in 1869 in Nottingham and his mother Mary Ann Chambers was born in 1867 also in Nottingham. Married in 1891, they had five children - Florence b.1892, William Joseph b.1893, George b1895, William b.1896 and Tom b.1900. In 1911, the family lived at 30, Kenilworth Terrace, Portland Road, Nottingham. Florrie was a hosiery machinist and George a lace warehouseman.
George Mason enlisted in Nottingham and landed in France on 28th June 1915. St Vaast Post Military Cemetery, Richebourg-L'Avoue Grave Reference: II.E.1.
His brother, Private Will Mason, 72nd Field Ambulance Royal Army Medical Corps was also killed on 17th June 1917. Nottingham Post obituary (abridged) 4 December 1915: MASON, killed in action November 15th, Private George Mason 7th Sherwood Foresters, age 21, eldest son of W and MA Mason, 30 Kenilworth Terrace.
