Family History

He was the son of Samuel Kirk and Charlotte Ann Argyle. His father was a farm labourer. He was the brother of William Harry, Mary, George (a motor mechanic), Walter and Charlie Argyle. Charlotte was born at Barrowby but her husband and all six children were born in Oxton. George Aygyle served in the Army Service Corps, Motor Ambulance Company, and went to France on 7 September 1915; he was demobilized in June 1919.

Military History

He enlisted at Nottingham. Medal Roll: France 31 August 1915. He was taken prisoner at Loos and died in Germany. He is buried in the Nikolai Cemetery, Latvia. He qualified for the 1915 Star, British War Medal, and Victory Medal.

Inscription on family headstone: 'In loving memory of Samuel Kirk the beloved husband of Charlotte Ann Argyle who died on June (-) 1911, age 47, also of Samuel, son of the above, taken prisoner at the battle of Loos, died in Germany September 13th 1917, aged 20 years.'
