Charles Marriott was born in 1898 at Sheffield and was the son of Charles and Sarah Eliza Marriott née Fisher of 2 George Street, Newark. His father George was born in 1867 at Mansfield and his mother was born in 1869 at Newark, they were married on 10th April 1887 at Newark and went on to have 11 children, sadly three were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were Eliza b1889 b Grimsthorpe, Lucy b1891 Grimesthorpe, Anna b1894 Sheffield . Charles b 1898, Frank b1900 Sheffield, Robert b1902 Sheffield, Walter b1904 Sheffield and Ernest b1910 Newark. In the 1911 census the family are living at 2 George Street Square, Newark and are shown as Charles 44 yrs listed as an invalid, he is living with his wife Sarah 42 yrs a charwoman and their children, Charles 14 yrs an errand boy, Frank 11 yrs a scholar, Robert 9 yrs a scholar, Walter 7 yrs a scholar and Ernest 1 year old.

Military History

Private Charles Marriott enlisted at Newark, he served with the 1/5th battalion Sherwood Foresters, he died in England on 18th January 1918 and is buried at St Mary's churchyard at Westwood, Nottinghamshire.
