Family History

Harold Cecil Caulton was born in 1890 at Nottingham and was the son of the late George Henry a joiner and builder and Annie Caulton née Harrison of 27, Lake St., Peveril Street, Nottingham. His father George Henry was born in 1864 at Nottingham, he died in 1916 aged 52 yrs, his mother Annie Harrison was born in 1862 also at Nottingham, they were married in 1887 at Nottingham, they had a further child a daughter Elsie Mary born 1891 also at Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 27 Lake Street, Nottingham and are shown as George Harold Caulton 47 yrs a joiner and builder, he is living with his wife Annie 49 yrs and their children, Harold Cecil 21 yrs a joiner and Elsie Mary 20 yrs a student.

Military History

Lance Corporal Harold Cecil Caulton, enlisted on 29th March 1915 at Nottingham giving his address as 27 Lake Street, Peveril Street, Nottingham and his age as 24 yrs and 10 months. He served with the Sherwood Foresters Regiment and went to France 27th October 1915 and suffered gunshot wounds to his left hand 30th June 1916. He was treated at 20 Casualty Clearing Station. Warlencourt, France and was evacuated to England on Hospital Ship Asturius 3rd July 1916. He returned to France 18th November 1916, was appointed Lance Corporal 21st February 1917 and was killed in action, 2nd March 1917, aged 27, whilst serving in the line at Gommecourt Wood, France. He is buried at Foncquevillers Military Cemetery (grave ref II.C.6).
