Family History

Cyril Charlesworth was born on 1st March 1898 at Nottingham and was the youngest son of Arthur a hand frame work knitter and Mary Ann Charlesworth, née Hutchinson of 71, Brighton St., Nottingham. His father Arthur was born in 1864 in Shepshed, Leicestershire and his mother Mary Ann Hutchinson was born in 1866 at Hathern, Leicestershire, they were married in 1885 in Nottingham and went on to have 7 children, sadly one was to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were, Charles Allen b1887, William Lancelot b1890, Hilda b1894, Arthur b1896, Cyril b1898 and Beatrice Helen b1903, all were born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 24 Moffatt Street, St Ann's Nottingham and are shown as Arthur 47 yrs a hand frame work knitter, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 45 yrs and their children, William Lancelot 21 yrs an organ builder, Hilda 17 yrs a blouse machinist, Arthur 15 yrs an office boy, Cyril 13 yrs a scholar, and Beatrice Helen 8 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Private Cyril Chatsworth enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 9th battalion Highland Light Infantry. He was killed in action on 26th September 1917 and having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
