Family History

John Joseph Stevenson was born in 1892 at Walton, Lancashire , he was married in 1913 at Nottingham to Gladys Gillion and lived at 5 Harrison Row, St Peters Street, Radford Nottingham, they had one child a daughter Joyce born 1914. His widow Gladys was awarded a pension of 15 shillings a week for herself and one child commencing 30th October 1916. His widow Gladys later remarried to a Richard Bell and they went on to have 5 further children.

Military History

Private John Joseph Stevenson enlisted on 2nd February 1915 at Nottingham, he was aged 22 yrs and 11 months and lived at 5 Harrison Row, St Peters Street, Radford, Nottingham, his next of kin was hi wife Gladys of the same address. He stated he had seen previous service in the Royal Field Artillery but had bought himself out . He was posted to the 7th battalion Sherwood Foresters. He landed in France on 27th October 1915. He was wounded in action on 10th April 1916, gun shot wound to his spleen and admitted to the 30 casualty clearing station, he died of his wounds on the 12th April 1916 and is buried at Aubigny Communal Cemetery Extension (grave ref I.A.34)
