Family History

He was the son of Frank Spinks and Sarah Spinks. However, his father died and his mother remarried and became Mrs Allen. Step-father: William Allen, born in 1860 in Nottingham and working as a bobbin and carriage hand. Mother: Sarah, born in 1860 in Nottingham. Children: Ernest Allen, born in 1885 in Nottingham and working as a lace machine builder, Lawrence Spinks, born in 1895 and working as a litho-printer, Margaret Spinks, born in 1897 and Dorothy Allen, born in 1903 in Nottingham. The family lived at 272 St. Ann's Well Road, Nottingham. Thomas Spinks was engaged to be married.

Military History

Spinks volunteered for service and following training he was drafted to France, arriving 23/02/1915. The battalion was involved in fighting to the north of Arras in April 1917 when Spinks was killed by a shell. He was buried at Canadian Cemetery No. 2 at Neuville St. Vaast

Nottingham Evening Post notice, 11 June 1917: 'Lance Corporal TE Spinks, Sherwood Foresters, 272 St Ann's Well Road, Nottingham, killed by shell, April 24th.' Brother Lawrence was wounded in early 1917 and brought to Netley Military Hospital, near Southampton.
