Family History

Harold Richmond Ewers was born in 1898 at Burton on Trent and was the son of Frank an agency manager and traveller and Mary Emily Ewers née Collins of The Burgage, Southwell and later 33 Newark Road, Southwell. His father Frank was born in 1864 at Burton on Trent and his mother Mary Emily Collins was born in 1864 at Birmingham, they were married in 1895 at Birmingham, they had a further son Leslie Frank b1896 at Burton on Trent. In the 1911 census the family are living at Station Street, Southwell and are shown as Frank 47 yrs an agency manager and traveller for a brewery and wine merchant he is living with his wife Mary Emily 47 yrs and their sons Leslie Frank 15 yrs a scholar and Harold Richmond 12 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Private Harold Richmond Ewers enlisted at Derby whilst residing at Southwell , he served with the 2/7th battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 24th October 1918 and he is buried in Canonne Farm British Cemetery, Sommaing, Nord, France (grave ref A.1).
