Wallace Arthur Gidlow was the son of Charles Singleton Gidlow and Selina Moore who married in the Basford registration district in 1879. Their children included: Wilfred Charles (b.1880), William Harold (b.1882), Wallace Arthur (b.1885) and Henry Singleton (b.1887). They lived at: 4 Mosley Terrace, Whitbread Street, Basford [C.1881]; 8 Scotholme Street, Hyson Green [Hyson Green St Paul’s Church christening of Wallace Arthur Gidlow 7.6.1885]; 5 Wycliffe Street, Basford [C.1891 & C.1901]; 2 Leonard Avenue, Sherwood, Nottingham [C.1911]; 209 Berridge Road, Hyson Green [CWGC]. In early 1891 Charles Singleton Gidlow, who worked as a fancy lace maker, died at Nottingham aged just 32. Selina Gidlow never remarried and brought up her four sons by setting up as a draper and milliner. She died at Nottingham, aged 75, in 1933. In 1911 Wallace Arthur Gidlow married Jessie Fell at Nottingham. They had one son, Stanley (b.1915). His widow lived at 24 Wordsworth Road, Radford [CWGC]. She never remarried and died at Mapperley Hospital, Nottingham, aged 74, in April 1960. The probate index registers gave her last address as 68 Monkton Drive, Bilborough, Nottingham.
Pte. Gilded enlisted at Nottingham; killed in action; as his body was not recovered his name was added to the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
His brother Private William Harold Gidlow, Royal Army Medical Corps. He first landed in Egypt on 29th May 1915 , and died of influenza on 17th October 1918 in a military hospital in India. He is buried in Poona (St. Sepulchre's) Cemetery.India A.306
