Family History

Harold Bowler was born in 1891 the son of William and the late Martha Bowler née Hayes and the brother of Luther, Lilian and Arthur Bowler. William was born in 1850 at Mansfield Woodhouse, Martha Hayes was born in 1852, she died in 1919 aged 65 yrs they were married in 1872 the marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district they had 11 children. Harold married Lillian Parnell (born 6th April 1887 they lived at 6 Nesbit Street Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire and the 2 children, Mary born 9th April 1912 and Arthur born 2nd October 1913. Commencing 14th January 1918 his widow Lillian was awarded a pension of 22 shillings and 11 pence a week.

Military History

Lance Corporal Harold Bowler enlisted at Sutton in Ashfield whilst residing there, he initially served with the service number 43464 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 28th June 1917 and is buried at Derry House Cemetery No 2, Belgium.
