John Richard Daykin

John Richard was the son of George Henry and Rebecca Daykin nee Pridmore. George Henry was born in Basford in 1866 (A/M/J Basford) and Rebecca in Gosberton, Lincolnshire, in 1868 (A/M/J Spalding). In 1891 Rebecca (22) was a general servant in the household of John Stockwin, a beer house keeper, and his wife Sarah, at 96-98 High Street, Basford, Nottingham. George Henry and Rebecca were married in 1894 (A/M/J Basford) and by the time of the 1911 Census had had eight children of whom only seven survived. Seven children were named on the 1901 and 1911 Census: George Henry b. 5 March 1895 (J/F/M Basford), Amy Elizabeth b. 1896 (A/M/J Basford), Annie Winifred b. 12 July 1900 (J/A/S Nottingham), John Richard b. 12 July 1900 (J/A/S Nottingham), Joseph b. 1901 (O/N/D Nottingham), Horace b. 19 August 1906 (J/A/S Nottingham) and Arthur b. 1909 (O/N/D Nottingham). In 1901 George (34), a coal miner, and Rebecca (32) were living at 146 High Street, Old Basford, with their four children George (6), Amy (5), Annie (8 months) and John (8 months). By 1911 the family was living at 138 High Street, Old Basford. George and Rebecca now had seven children, all of whom were still living at home: George Henry (16) a lace machine builder, Amy (15) a lace mender, Annie (10), John (10), Joseph (9), Horace (4) and Arthur (1). John's parents were living at 64 Church Street, Old Basford, when they were notified of their son's death in 1919, but the CWGC record gives their address as 2 Church Street, Old Basford. George Henry senior died at the age of 64 in 1930 (September Nottingham) and Rebecca at the age of 67 in 1934 (June Nottingham). Of John's siblings: George Henry died in 1970 (March Derby) at the age of 75. Amy Elizabeth (Daykin) died on 19 July 1953; her home address was 44 Cowley Street, Old Basford. Annie Winifred probably married Joseph Richardson in 1919 (J/A/S Nottingham). Horace may have married Elsie EA Bucknell in 1938 (A/M/J Nottingham). He died in 1975 (March Nottingham).
