Family History

Hilary Carlin was born in Beighton, Yorkshire, he was baptised on 2nd May 1895 at Beighton, he was the son of Joseph a caol miner hewer and Alice Carlin, née Hurst of 5 Charles Street, Sutton in Ashfield. Joseph was born in 1860 Eckington, Derbyshire, Alice Hurst was born in 1860 at Sheffield, they were married in 1883 their marriage was recorded in the Sheffield registration district they had 9 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family were living at 64 High Street, Mosborough, Derbyshire, Joseph 51 yrs is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Alice 51 yrs and their children, Harold 18 yrs a coal miner, Hilary 16 yrs a coal miner, Edith 12 yrs, Lily 7 yrs and Fred 2 years of age.

Military History

Private Hilary Beighton enlisted at Blackwell , Derbyshire 20th October 1914, he went to France on 28th June 1915. He was killed in action on 30th March 1916 aged 21 yrs, whilst serving in the line near Acq in France, he is buried: Ecoivres Military Cemetery, Mont-St. Eloi, France. Plot I, Row C, Grave 15.
