He was the son of Elizabeth Calvert and the brother of Thomas, Sophia and Sarah Ann. Thomas served in the 10th Bn Sherwood Foresters and was killed in France on 19 April 1918. John was the husband of Ena (née Toner) Calvert and the father of Elizabeth Calvert. In 1911 they lived at Roberts Yard, High Road, Beeston, Nottingham.
