Henry Lane was born in 1891 he was the son Of William George a frame work knitter and Ellen Lane née Smith of 328, Alfreton Rd., Nottingham. William George was born in 1867, Ellen Smith was born in 1870 both were born at Radford, they were married in 1888 at Nottingham, they had 5 children. In 1911 the family were living at 37 Connaught Street, Radford, William George is 44 yrs and a frame work knitter, he is living with his wife Ellen 41 yrs and their 5 children, Henry 20 yrs is a baker

Military History

Private Henry Lane enlisted at Derby whilst residing at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 38334 in the Lincolnshire Regiment. He was serving with the Royal Scots when he was killed in action on 26th September 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial
