Father: William Matkin, born in 1866, employed as a lace worker. Mother Eliza Matkin, born in 1871 in Nottingham. Brothers: Alfred, born in 1895 in Nottingham, working as a lace punch card operator and Leonard, born 1900 in Southwell. Sisters:Eliza, born i 1891 in Nottingham, working as a cotton winder, Gerty, born in 1904 in Beeston, Nottingham and Cissy, born in 1907 at Draycott, Derbyshire. The family lived at 3 Easton Yard, Nottingham before moving to 14 Dennett's Terrace, Beaumont Street, Nottingham.

Military History

Driver Matkin volunteered for service, and following training he was drafted to France, arriving on 26/09/1915. He was involved in action during a quiet period in the line near Bethune, northern France and was killed in action on 09/11/1917.
