Family History

Marshall Stockdale (junior) was born in 1891 the son of Marshall Stockdale (senior) a ladies tailor and Alice Hannah Stockdale née Stevenson of 109 Whitemore Road, Old Basford, Nottingham. His father Marshall Stockdale was born in 1865 at Nottingham, Alice Hannah Stevenson was born in 1863 also at Nottingham, married in 1885 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District. They went on to have 10 children, sadly 7 were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were, Margaret Lillian b1887, Marshall b1891. Henry Kerry b1893 all were born in Nottingham. In 1911 the family are living at 109 Whitemore Road, Old Basford and are shown as Marshall 46 yrs a ladies tailor, he is living with his wife Alice Hannah 48 yrs and their children, Margaret Lillian 24 yrs a lace cutter, Marshall20 yrs a hosiery machine worker and Henry Kerry 18 yrs he is listed as an invalid with no occupation. Marshall married Mabel Deakin in 1914 in Nottingham, they lived at 81, Zulu Rd., Basford, Nottingham. They went on to have two children, Lewis born 1914 and Irene born 1916, both born in Nottingham His probate was proven at Nottingham on 14th May 1918 and shows him as Marshall Stockdale the younger of 81 Zulu Road, New Basford, Private H.M Army died 22nd December 1917 in France, his effects of £868 1 shilling and 10 pence were left to Margaret Liillian Stockdale, spinster (his sister)

Military History

Private Marshall Stockdale enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Basford, killed in action on 22nd December 1917 and is buried at Grevillers British Cemetery.
