Family History

George Stendall was born in 1891 he was the son of William a stone miner, and Phoebe Stendall and the brother of John, Frank, Harold and Joseph Stendall of 19 Bishop Street, Sutton in Ashfield. William was born in 1861, Phoebe was born in 862 both were born in Sutton in Ashfield they were married C1882 and went on to have 10 children, sadly 5 died in infancy or early childhood In 1901 they lived on Eastfield Side Sutton in Ashfield and by 1911 were living at 19 Bishop Street, Sutton in Ashfield, William is 50 yrs and is a stone miner in a coal mine, he is living with his wife Phoebe 49 yrs and 4 of their children, Frank 20 yrs a stone miner, Harold 17 yrs a general carter George 15 yrs a pony driver, coal miner and Samuel 8 yrs of age.

Military History

Private George Stendall enlisted at Sutton in Ashfield, served with the 1/8th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment he landed in France on 2nd March 1915, he was killed in action on 29th August 1918 and is buried at Fouquieres Churchyard Extension
