Family History

Arthur Lock (junior) was born in 1895 at Nottingham and was the son of the late Arthur Lock (senior) who worked at the tramway depot and Margaret Lock née Carlile of 10 Ekowe Street, Basford. His father Arthur Lock (senior) was born in 1849 at Goadby Manor, Leicestershire, he died in 1904 aged 55 yrs, his mother Margaret Carlile was born in 1857 at Manchester, they were married in 1880 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham registration district. They went on to have the following children all of whom were born in Nottingham, Frances Annie b1887, William Carlile b1893, Arthur b1895 and Margaret Violet b1898. In the 1911 census the family are living at 10 Ekowe Street, Basford and are shown as Margaret 54 yrs a widow and cardboard box maker, she is living with her children Frances Annie 24 yrs a cardboard box maker, William Carlile 18 yrs a warehouse man, Arthur 16 yrs a printer and Margaret Violet 13 yrs an errand girl.

Military History

Private Arthur Lock enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Basford, He served with the 2/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 26th September 1917 and having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.

Extra Information

His brother Lance Corporal William Carlile Lock enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 13th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 27th September 1915 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.
