Henry Leach was born in 1887 at Newark and was the son of late Henry an implement painter and Ellen Leach née Sergeant of King Street, Newark. His father Henry was born in 1854 in London and died in 1904 at Newark, he was 50 yrs of age, his mother Ellen Sergeant was born in 1859 at Bedfordshire, they were married in 1877 their marriage was recorded in the Bedford Registration area, they went on to have the following children, Ellen Beatrice, b1881, Florence b1883, Kate b1885 and Henry b1887 all were born at Newark. In the 1901 census the family are living at 27 King Street, Newark.
Lance Corporal Henry Leach enlisted at Newark and served with the 1st battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 8th September 1914 and is commemorated on the La Ferte-Sous-Jouarre Memorial, Seine-et-Marne, France.
a.k.a. “Harry”. Article published 24th March 1915 in the Newark Advertiser :- Son of late Henry & Ellen Leach of 27 King Street, Newark. His late father was a well known employee of Messrs. W.N. Nicholson and Son Ltd. Young Leach was apprenticed to the same firm, before enlisting into the Royal Warwicks in May 1906. Joining the 2nd battalion, he was appointed Lance Corporal at an early date and in 1907 was posted to the 1st battalion at Quetta, India. Served on the frontier and received the medal (Zaka Khel) expedition, 1908. Returned to England with the 1st battalion, being stationed at Shorncliffe from whence they were sent to join the expeditionary force, 4th Division, landing in France on 22nd August. Wounded at Ligny on 26th August and died of wounds on 8th Sept. 1914.
