Thomas Cheetham was born in 1897 he was the son of Thomas William a lace machine fitter and Annie Cheetham, née Skinner of 25 Cremorne St, Meadows, Nottingham. Thomas William was born in 1866 at Nottingham, Annie Skinner was born in 1871 at Newton, Nottinghamshire, they were married in 1892 and went on to have 4 children, sadly one died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 Thomas was living with his mother and grandparents Thomas is 14 yrs of age, living with his mother Annie Cheetham 40 yrs and his grandparents Leonard and Mary Jane Skinner in Newton Village. In 1911 his father Thomas William is 45 yrs a lace machine fitter is living on his own at 25 Cremorne Street, Nottingham, he worked at Jardines in the Meadows His pension record cards gives information about a child, Dorothy Irene Waterfield born 19th March 1916, the guardian of which was Mary Waterfield of 25 Stoney Street, Beeston, Nottingham who received a pension of 5 shillings a week from 5th June 1917.
Private Thomas Cheetham enlisted at Nottingham, and initially served with the Probably South Notts Hussars - (wearing SNH cap on photo) . Transferred to Foresters at some point but no service record traced. Transferred to 1/6th Battalion Notts & Derby as part of the 28th Reinforcement on 6th January 1917 he was killed in action on 8th May 1917 and is buried in Maroc British Cemetery, Grenay, 2.O.2
