Family History

George Teather was born in 1887 and was the son of Mary Ann, a single woman. The name, Teather, comes from Annie Teather who was George’s grandmother. He is recorded in the Church Baptismal Book as having been baptized at St. Swithun's on 20th May 1893. Annie and George are both listed in the 1901 census as living at 48 Pinchpenny Row. George is listed as being a market-gardener. He is also believed to have been a drummer in the village band.In the 1911 census he is shown as single 25 years and living with his mother at Main Street, Woodborough, they are both framework knitters

Military History

According to the records of the Sherwood Foresters he is said to have enlisted at Derby. He joined 15th Battalion (Bantam) Regiment. This regiment was so called because it initially enlisted men between the height of 5' and 5' 3".He is recorded as being killed in action in the Right Sector of the Divisional Front at Buire. He was 31 years of age when he died.George has no known grave and is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, Somme Department
