Frank Riley was born in 1895 at Warsop and was the son of the late William a colliery labourer and Hannah Riley née Lewis of 3 Chadwick's Yard, Warsop. His father William was born in 1852 at Warsop, he died in 1908 aged 57 yrs, his mother Hannah Lewis was born in 1857 also at Warsop, they were married in 1874 their marriage was recorded in the Worksop registration district, they had the following children, Fred b1876, Richard b1877, George b1879, Sarah b1880, Joseph b1885, Violet b1890, James b1892 and Francis b1896 all were born in Warsop. In the 1911 census his widowed mother is living at 116 Sherwood Street, Warsop and shown as Hannah 54 yrs a widow, she is living with her children James 19 yrs a colliery labourer and Frank 16 yrs a colliery labourer.

Military History

Private Frank Riley enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Warsop, he initially served with the service number 11983 Leicestershire Regiment, he was killed in action on 10th March 1915 whilst serving with the 2nd battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial.
