Family History

John Wareham and Mary Elizabeth Brown married 1899 Chesterfield. Their first 2 children, Elizabeth and Beatrice were born in Clown, Derbyshire. John was a coal miner and when he moved to Whitwell in 1895, no doubt worked at Whitwell pit whilst residing at Colliery Row. Their remaining children were all born whilst at Whitwell, William in 1895, Grace 1896, John Edwin 1902 and Winifred born in 1908. In 1911, the eldest son, William was a 16 year old pit pony driver

Military History

William enlisted at Worksop, went to the Balkans on 18 July 1915, was killed in less than a month and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey. Research by Colin Dannatt
