He was the son of son of William (died 1893) and Betsy Moss and the brother of Mary, Herbert and Harry Moss. In 1891 they lived at Grantchester Cambridgeshire and in 1901 at Welford Northamptonshire. He was the husband of Melinda Louisa (née Snasdell) Moss of 23 Lavender Street Nottingham (married 12/3/1910). He was the father of Irene Louisa (b. 4/2/1913) and Ivy Melinda (b. 23/7/1916) Moss.
237th Siege Battery He enlisted at Hull 7/12/1915 under Lord Derby's Scheme and was posted 10/6/1916. 30/10/1919 his body was exhumed and reburied in White House Cemetery St Jean-Les-Ypres Grave Reference: 3.E.19
All Saints Church, Raleigh Street, Nottingham, parish magazine September 1917, war obituaries: 'John Moss, 23 Lavender Street, Dame Agnes Street, youngest son of Mrs Moss, 14 Clyde Terrace, Gunner Royal Garrison Artillery, killed in action August 3rd 1917 [CWGC 4 August 1917], aged 28 (sic). Leaves a widow and two children. Connected with Emmanuel Church. Caretaker of Emmanuel Institute.'
