Family History

He was the son of Thomas and Charlotte Shortland and the brother of Mary and Flora (later Culley) Shortland. In 1901 they lived at 39 Kirkwhite Street Meadows Nottingham. Flora later lived at 123 Hood Street Sherwood Nottingham.

Military History

He was also awarded the Cross of St George 4th Cl. (Russia). He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial.
