Frank Mee was born in 1892 at Ruddington, he was the son of the late Walter Mee a stocking framework knitter and Ellen Mee née Price Waye, of 3 Station Street, Ruddington. Walter Mee was born in 1854 at Ruddington, he died in 1907 aged 53 yrs, Ellen Price Whye was also born in 1854 at Ruddington, they were married in 1872 at Ruddington they had 7 children. In the 1911 census Frank Mee was in the Army, he was living in barracks at Crownhill Barracks, Devon, he is shown as being 20 yrs and is serving with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment.
Private Frank Mee enlisted at Nottingham he served with the 1st battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, and landed in France on 4th November 1914.he was killed in action on 1st January 1915. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial Panel 26 & 27
In memoriam 1st January 1916 in the Nottingham Evening Post: “MEE. – In ever-loving memory of our dear brother, Frank, 1st Sherwood Foresters, of Ruddington, killed in action in France, January 1st, 1915, aged 23 years. The Heavenly stars shine on that distant grave, on the one we loved, but could not save; too far away thy grave to see, but not too far to think of thee.
