Ira William Turner

Ira William Turner was born in 1891 at Warwick and was the son of Ira William Turner and the late Mary Elizabeth Turner née Hardy of 1 Nicholson Street, Newark. His father Ira William was born in Great Godding, Huntingdon in 1863 and his mother Mary Elizabeth Hardy was born in 1868 at Milton, Newark, she died in 1909 aged 52 yrs the death was registered in the Nottingham registration district. They were married in 1886 their marriage was registered in the Nottingham registration district, went on to have the following children, Eunice Ann b1887 Nottingham, Ira William b1892 Warwick, Gertrude Mary b1896 Warwick, Eleanor Annie b1896 Warwick, Nancy Beatrice b1899 Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire, Janet b1904 Newark and Frances b1908 Newark. In the 1911 census the family are living at 1 Nicholson Street, Newark and are shown as Ira William Turner 48 yrs a bricklayer and a widow , he is living with his children, Eunice Ann 24 yrs a tailors machinist, Nancy Beatrice 12 yrs a scholar, Janet 7 yrs a scholar and Frances 3yrs. In the same 1911 census we find that Ira William has left the family home and joined the army, he is living at Crownhill Fort barracks, Devon, he is shown as being 19 yrs and a private in the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters.
