Amos Lawrence Leon was born in 1885 at Benhall, Suffolk and was the son of William an agricultural labourer and Eliza Leon née Foster of Benhall, Suffolk. His father William was born in 1846 at Benhaall and his mother Eliza Foster was born in 1847 also in Suffolk, they were married in 1871 their marriage was recorded in Plomsgate, Suffolk, they went on to have the following children Ellen b1873, William b1875, Eliza b1877, Ernest b1879, Austin b1881, Edith b1882, Amos b1885, Rose b 1887 and Alice b1888 all were born in Benhall. Amos married Mary Gregg (born 12th December 1887 of Harby Melton Mowbray Leicestershire.) in 1915 their marriage was recorded in the Bingham registration district, they lived at Plumtree and had a son Lawrence Ernest Leon born 7th August 1916. Following his death his widow Mary was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week which commenced on 28th April 19191.
Private Amos Lawrence Leon enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 6th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 3rd October 1918 and is buried at Bellicourt British Cemetery Grave Reference: V 1 6
