Reginald John Wright was born in 1899 at Grantham and was the son of Jesse a platelayer for the Great Northern Railway and Florence Wright née Woolley of 16 Stuart Street Grantham. His father Jesse Wright was born in 1875 at Lincoln and his mother Florence Woolley was born in 1878 at Dogsthorpe, Northamptonshire, they were married in 1897 their marriage was recorded in the Grantham Registration District, they wenton to have 8 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were, Reginald John b1899 Grantham, William Edwin b1900 Grantham, Horace b1902 Newark, Jesse Rawlinson b1905 Newark, Gladys b1909 Newark and Lillian b 1910 Newark. In the 1911 census the family are living at 7 Barnby Crossings, Newark and are shown as Jesse 36 yrs a platelayer for the Great Northern Railway, he is living with his wife Florence 33 yrs and their children, Reginald John 12 yrs a scholar, William Edwin 11 yrs a scholar, Horace 9 yrs. Jesse 6 yrs, Gladys 2 yrs and Lillian 9 months of age.
Private Reginald John Wright enlisted on 13th January 1914 at Halifax, he gave his age as 17 years and 8 months , (he was born in 1899 therefore was only 15 yrs of age) his address as 7 Barmby Crossings, Newark, and his next of kin as his father Jesse of the same address, he gave his occupation as that of a telegraph clerk. Posted to the 1/4th battalion Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment) he was embodied on 5th August 1914 and volunteered for overseas active duty 20th September 1914. He embarked from Folkstone on 14th April 1915 on board the SS.Invicta. He was killed in action on 19th December 1915 and is buried in Talana Farm Cemetery West-Vlaanderen Belgium.
