Benjamin Smith was born in 1897 the son of John Albert a lace manufacturer and Rose Annie Smith of 'Fernside', Collington Street, Beeston, Nottingham. John Albert was born in 1873 at Beeston, Rose Annie was born in 1874 at Northampton. they had a further son Harold born 1894 at Beeston. In 1911 the family were living at Collington Street, Beeston Joh Albert is a lace manufacturer and both his sons are working in their fathers business.

Military History

Private Ben Smith enlisted in Nottingham, he died of wounds on 9th July 1916 and is buried at Etretat Churchyard, France. Plot 2, Row D. Grave 13.
