Lance-Corpl Jim Page Worksop Guardian 4 May 1917 Official news was received on Wednesday morning of the death of Lance-Corpl Jim Page of he 2nd Sherwood Foresters and son of Mr Edward Page, 8 Boundary Row, Worksop and coachman to Dr Montague. The intimation was to the effect that he was killed in action in France on April 18th but there were no further details. Lance-Corpl Page, who would have been 23 years of age on May 14th, was the eldest son of his parents. He was in the Worksop Co. of the 8th Notts Volunteers when war broke out and was mobilised at Filey with the rest of the Regiment. Subsequently, he was transferred to the 2nd Sherwood Foresters. He was first drafted to France in February 1915 and was wounded at Loos in October of that year. He was the reported missing, but fortunately his relatives knew that he was in hospital at the time. He was brought to England and upon recovering, was again drafted to France in February of this year, since which time he has been in the thick of the fighting. A letter was received from him a fortnight since in which he said he had nearly been taken prisoner, as the Germans got into their trenches, he thought from behind and they were fighting them out for an hour. Only three letters have been received from him since he went out in February last. Lance-Corpl Page was a time expired man in September, but of course the Army could not release him. Before enlistment he worked at Shireoaks Colliery. Mr and Mrs Page have another son serving, who has been wounded. He is Pte Chris. Page of the 16th Sherwood Foresters and was wounded on Sept. 13th in France.
