James Harold Orwin was born in 1898 at Mansfield he was the son of John a boot maker and and Emma (Emily) Orwin nee Grovenor of 35 Belvedere Street, Mansfield. John was born in 1861 at Brinnington, Derbyshire, Emily Grovenor was born in 1863 at Mansfield they were married in 1881 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district, they went on to have 12 children, sadly 4 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family are living at 23 Brunt Street, Mansfield, John 50 yrs is a boot maker, he is living with his wife Emily 48 yrs and their 8 children including James Harold 13 yrs an errand boy.

Military History

Private James Orwin initially served wit the service number 66513 the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, later transferring to the 1st Infantry Labour Corp but then transferred to 32nd coy Labour Corp. He died of wounds on 16th July 1917 and is buried in Canada Farm Cemetery

His brother, Charles Henry, also served and he survived the war.
