Family History

Ernest Bland was born at Hay Field, Awkley near Doncaster 6th September 1895, of parents Charles and Sara Ann Bland. He had a sister, Doris. Over the next few years, the family moved around from Awkley to Lound and Mattersey. In 1909, Ernest’s mother died at the age of 41 and sometime later, Ernest’s father went from shepherd to farmer living at Low Farm, Serlby.

Military History

Ernest was involved with the Gallipoli campaign and died as a direct result of enemy action and was commemorated on the Helles Memorial. Turkey
