Henry Nixon

He was known as 'Harry'. He was born about 1894 the son of Creasey and Fanny Nixon who in 1911 completed the census form that they had been married for 34 years and had had 12 children born alive of whom 11 were still living. However, only ten children were named on the census between 1881 and 1911: George W, Elizabeth J, Creasey, Frances L, Nellie, Ethel, Herbert, Henry, Sarah Jane and Hilda. All their children were born in either Great Gonerby or Grantham (Lincolnshire). In 1881 when they were first married Creasey, his wife and their only child, George, lived on Oxford Street, Grantham, but by 1891 the family was living in Gonerby, Lincolnshire. They had moved to Nottingham by 1901 and Creasey, Fanny and the ten children named above were living at 9 Church Terrace, St Saviours Street, Meadows. However, in 1911 they were living at 25 Radcliffe Street, Radford, Nottingham, and only five of their children were at home on the night of the 1911 census: Nellie (22), Herbert (18), Henry (17), Sarah Jane (16) and Hilda (14). Henry married Hilda Moult in 1914 (registered Oct/Nov/Dec) and they had a daughter, Winifred H., the following year. The army records note that Henry left a widow and one child; however, the 'In Memoriam' notice in the local paper in 1919 does not mention his daughter. The notice gives his widow's address as 2 Hucknall Road, Nottingham.
