Family History

Harold Cross was born in 1891 at Ruddington, he was the son of Arthur William a gardener and Hannah Elizabeth Cross née Blood of Wilford Road, Ruddington. Arthur William was born in 1866, Hannah Elizabeth Blood was born in 1868 both were born in Ruddington, they were married on 28th May 1887 at Ruddington they had 4 children, their other children were Thomas born 1888, Ada born 1889, and William born 1894 all the children were born in Ruddington. In the 1911 census the family are living at Wilford Road, Ruddington, Arthur William 45 yrs is a gardener, he is living with his wife Hannah Elizabeth 43 years and their children, Thomas 23 yrs a gardener, Ada 22 yrs a cotton winder, Harold 20 yrs a dairyman and William 17 yrs a porter in a clothing shop. Harold Cross married Eveline Tongue (born 9th August 1894) in 1913 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district they lived at Wilford Road, Ruddington and had two daughters Nellie born 26th November 1913 and Agnes born 23rd September 1916. Commencing 12th November 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 22 shillings and 11 pence a week.

Military History

Private Harold Cross enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Ruddington, he served with the 7th battalion Yorkshire Regiment, He was killed in action on 25th April 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial bay 5 France.
