Frederick John Blasdale was born in 1896 in Nottingham and was the son of Joseph Frederick Blasdale a solicitors cashier and Ellen Edith Blasdake née Ayers of "The Nook" 24, Villiers Rd, Woodthorpe, NottinghamHis father Joseph Frederick was born in 1869 at Sutton in Ashfield, his mother Ellen Edith Ayers was born in 1869 in Cambridge, they were married in 1891 in Dorchester and went on to have 6 children, 1 sadly died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were Ethel Mary b1893 Nottm, Doris Nellie b1894 Nottm, Frederick John b1896 Nottm, Charles Wright b1899 Nottm and Elsie Mary b1902 West Bridgford In the 1911 census the family are living at 42 Ebers Road, Mapperley Park, Nottingham and are shown as Joseph Frederick 42 yrs a solicitors cashier, he is living with his wife Ellen Edith 42 yrs and their children, Ethel May 18 yrs a milliners assistant, Doris Nellie 17 yrs a schools bursar, Frederick John son 15 yrs a scholar, Charles Wright 12 yrs a scholar and Elsie Mary 9 yrs
Lance Corporal Frederick John Blasdale enlisted on 15th September 1914 at Nottingham, he was 18 yrs and 10 months and resided at 42 Ebers Road, Mapperley Park , Nottingham. he served with the service number 2590 in the 7th battalion Sherwood Foresters. He was discharged form his battalion on 4th August 1916 when he transferred to the Machine Gun Corps. Embarked from Folkstone on 13th September 1916, disembarking the following day at Boulogne, he joined his unit 150th Company, Machine Gun Corps in the field on 20th September 1916. Promoted to Lance Corporal on 24th November 1916 he was killed in action on 10th April 1918 near to Estarirs and is buried in Trois Arbres Cemetery 3.D.3
