Albert Edward Matthews

Albert Edward was born in 1884 in Nottingham and was the son of late George William a malsters labourer and Eliza Ann Mathews née King of 5 White Cottages, Vernon Road,Basford. His father George William was born in 1857 in Suffolk and died in 1907 in Nottingham, his mother Eliza Ann King was born in Fulbeck, Lincolnshire in 1862, they were married in 1879 in Radford and went on to have 13 children , sadly 4 died in infancy or early childhood their surviving children were George William b1882, Albert Edward b1884, Fred Henry b1887, Ernest Leonard b1889, Florence Eliza b1890, Grace Lillian b1894, Ada May b1896 , Charles Gordon b1899 and Frank Alfred b1905 all the children are born in Nottingham. Albert Edward married his wife Lucy Elizabeth Stainforth on 1st September 1906 at the Nottingham Registry Office, she later lived at 1, Bright Row, Radford Rd., Hyson Green, Nottingham. They had a son Albert Reynolds born 6th November 1908. In the 1911 census his family are living at 5 White Cottages, Vernon Road, and are shown as Eliza Ann 49 yrs a widow , she is living with her children Ernest Leonard 22 yrs a colliery banksman, Florence Eliza 21 yrs a machinist, Grace Lillian 17 yrs working in the hosiery trade, Ada May 14 yrs working in the hosiery trade, Charles Gordon 12 yrs a scholar and Frank Alfred a scholar. In the same 1911 Census we find Albert Edward 27 yrs a malsters labourer living at 11 Gladstone Terrace, Scotholme Street, Nottingham, he is living with his wife Lucy Elizabeth 25 yrs and their son Albert Reynolds 1 yr.
