Family History

Edwin Marriott was born in 1887 at Ruddington, he was the son of the late Robey Marriott a frame work knitter and Annie Marriott née Pike of Ruddington. Robey was born in 1851 at Skegby, he died in 1893 aged 43 yrs, Annie Pike was born in 1854 at Ruddington, they were married in 1876 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they had a daughter Mary Ann born 1880. His mother went on to marry Swift Foxon a frame work knitter born 1852 Ruddington, he died in 1905 aged 53 yrs, they were married in 1893 their marriage was recorded in te Basford registration district. The family lived at 3 Savages Row, Ruddington.

Military History

Private Edwin Marriott enlisted at Derby on 17th June 1916 , giving his age as 38 yrs and 3 months, he was a farm labourer, he gave his address at 3 Savages Row, Ruddington, he was posted to the Lincolnshre Regiment and joined them at their depot at Derby on 19th June 1916. He embarked from Folkstone on 2nd December 1916 landing in Calais the following day. He was admitted to the 7th General Hospital at Boulogne on 20th February 1917with lobar pneumonia, from which he died on 22nd February 1917 he is buried at Longuengesse (St Omer) Cemetery, France.
