Harold Gladwin was the eldest child born to George and Kate Gladwin in 1893 at Caistor, Lincolnshire. George’s working life was occupied by working as a woodman and sawyer. In 1901 the family of 5 children, who were all born in Lincolnshire, were living at Boundary Road, Limber, Lincs. Over the next few years, whilst still living in Lincolnshire, the family was increased by 2 more children and between 1904 and 1907, the family moved to Worksop, where the last child of 8 was born. Their place of residence was 232 Mafeking Terrace, Worksop. In 1913, Harold married Mary Louisa Watson and moved into Colbeck Street.
Harold Gladwin enlisted at Worksop, early in the war, in the Sherwood Foresters. He was drafted to France on 17th August 1915 where he was killed in action over two years later. He was awarded the 1915 star, British and Victory medal and is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, France
