Family History

Charles Herbert Fitzjohn was born Shireoaks 9 Nov 1896 and baptised on 4th December 1896 at St Lukes Church, Shireoaks, he was the son of James a coal miner hewer and Clara Fitzjohn (nee Woodward) of Shireoaks Row, Worksop. James was born in 1856 at Woodnewton, Northamptonshire, Clara Woodward was born in 1863 at Radcliffe Grange, they were married in 27th February 1882 at St Lukes Church, Shireoaks they went on to have 15 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family are living at 52 Shireoaks Row, Worksop James 55 yrs is a coal miner, he is living with his wife Clara 48 yrs and 7 of their children, including Charles Herbert 14 yrs a lamp cleaner at a colliery.

Military History

Private Charles Herbert Fitzjohn enlisted at Worksop, he died of his wounds and was buried at the Montbernanchon British Cemetery Gonnehem.
