Ernest was born in 1894 in Hucknall and was the son of Ruth Mosley. His mother Ruth Mosley was born in 1871 her birth was registered in the Chesterfield Registration District, he had siblings Percy b1895 North Wingfield, John b1899 North Wingfield, Eliza b1900 North Wingfield. In the 1901 census he is living with his mother Ruth 29 yrs born 1872 Staveley she is a housekeeper living at Waterloo, North Wingfield, she is house keeper to a John Todd 39 yrs a coal miner (in the census it was written - 'might be termed as wife as they were living together' ) In 1901 his mother Ruth Moseley married John Todd their marriage is recorded in the Chesterfield Registration area. By the 1911 census the family are living at 6 Waverley Street, Tibshelf and are shown as John Todd 49 yrs a coal miner , he is living with his wife Ruth Todd 40 yrs and their children , Herbet Todd 23 yrs a coal miner, Ernest Mosley 17 yrs a coal miner, Percy Mosley 16 yrs no occupation John Todd Mosley 12 yrs Eliza Todd Mosely 10 yrs, Maggie Todd 8 yrs, Fred Todd 6 yrs, James 4 yrs, Rose Todd 2 yrs and Violet Todd 6 months

Military History

Lance Corporal Ernest Todd, enlisted at Sutton in Ashfield whilst residing at Alfreton and served with the 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment. He landed in France on 27th August 1915 and died of wounds on 3rd October 1916. He is buried in Dernancourt Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme.
